Drastic changes in global market have increased the significance of both fields; finance and mathematics. Financial institutions like banks, insurance consultancies and investment companies consider mathematical processes an integral part of their work. The postgraduate degree in Financial Mathematics at UOW gives a clear understanding of practical skills required to plan, execute and assess procedures of financial sector to process transactions, plan investment strategies and to deal with risk. The Practitioners' Seminars component of the course gives student first hand knowledge from the renowned personalities of the corporate world. It is full time degree of 96 credit points to be completed in two years. In first year it includes courses like Multivariate and Vector Calculus, Differential Equations: Analysis and Application, Random Variables and Estimation, Statistical Inference and Introduction to Model Building, Research Methods and Managerial Finance. Student also has to choose one from Portfolio Management and Portfolio Simulation. Year two includes a Final Year Project along with Practitioners’ Seminar. Theoretical courses include Financial Mathematics (Enhanced), Methods in Finance, Stochastic Methods in Finance, Generalized Linear Models (Enhanced), Advanced Managerial Finance and Stochastic Methods in Statistical Analysis (Enhanced). The program covers the conditions of Senior Associate membership of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia for its graduates.
