An important element of quantitative analysis is quantitative and computational trading in which mathematical computations are used to identify financial trading prospects. The degree of The Bachelor of Mathematics and Finance (Honours) at UOW not only instills the skills of applying mathematical and statistical methods to real-world problems but also helps in polishing computing and communication skills in students, which are highly significant in current job market scenario. It opens career gateway for students as investment consultants, traders, financial analysts, etc. Financial mathematics is vital aspect for Bankers, Insurance companies, Investment Managers in order to survive and have a competitive advantage. During the course, students may get scholarship opportunities from corporate sector, access to Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) as well as research projects with faculty of UOW. The course consists of 192 credit points including core subjects and electives. Some of the core subjects include Linear Algebra and Groups, Introduction to Statistics, Financial Mathematics and Investment Analysis. The students may have the option to choose electives from courses like Taxation, Marketing Principles, Data Management and Security, Problem Solving, etc. Graduates of UOW are currently working as auditor, banker, accountant policy advisor, insurance broker and fund manager.
