Materials engineers have used scientific and engineering knowledge to turn raw materials into finished products: everything from materials and consumer goods to advanced electronic equipment and materials such as tissue and bionic eyes. They understand how the structure and properties of materials can be controlled by construction and operation. They design and select materials and processing techniques to suit a specific program.
